Lowering blood pressure may be as simple as cutting meat out of your diet, according to a recent article published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. In this article, researchers analyzed results of 39 studies from the last few decades that looked at the relationship between diet and blood pressure.

By reviewing past comparing and research results, authors hoped to establish once and for all whether a vegetarian diet promotes a healthy blood pressure. Together, the 39 studies included almost 22, participants that followed different types of diets ranging from vegan no meat, fish, eggs or dairy products to “omnivorous” no dietary restrictions. All scholarly studies compared the blood pressure of participants with a vegetarian vs. In fact, vegetarians had as much as 6.

Based on their findings, authors recommend that adopting a vegetarian diet is a good way to help patients reduce their blood pressure without medication. For example, if cutting out salt is difficult for a patient trying to lower their blood pressure, avoiding meat may be a much better option to help achieve a healthy blood pressure.

After all, according to this study adopting a vegetarian diet may be as powerful as a low-sodium diet or weight loss of 11 pounds when it comes to lowering blood pressure.

The relevant question now, authors state, is which type of vegetarian diet lowers blood pressure the most. Is a strict vegetarian diet most effective in reducing blood pressure? Or, does the addition of heart-healthy foods like fish help further lower blood pressure? Through additional research, professionals hope to compare these kinds of diets in order to help patients manage or prevent high blood pressure more effectively. Questions for You to Consider What is a vegetarian? Vegans are the strictest type of vegetarians, who avoid any type of foods or meat derived from animals dairy, eggs, etc.

Other types of vegetarians eat dairy lacto-vegetarians or eggs and dairy lacto-ovo-vegetariansbut avoid all other meat and fish. How can I lower my blood pressure through diet?     Heres my approach: wake up, drink cup of water with Hawthorne berries pill and one Now brand magnesium/potassium. Might use bathroom, shower, grab 3 stalks of celery, one big carrot, and one beet, juice them. I get about 14 oz of juice. Drink that with a garlic pill. May squeeze a lime juice to my drink and this is very good. And thats it folks. Go about my day. I dont feel hungry for hours and hours. Take another Hawthorne or garlic along with another magnesium/potassium before I eat a small. I mean small, small meal, low sodium, low fat, snack. I often go all day without eating. Have some good fruit in case you get hungry. Then eat one meal later after work. Thats it. Oh, lastly, go jog or do some physical activity. Mow the lawn or wash your car. Saves money, helps lower blood pressure, and keeps your home or car looking nice.

    Has anyone’s blood pressure risen when doing OMAD? I have been doing intermittent fasting for a year and when doing OMAD my blood pressure went to 140/90. I’m not a vegan, but eat 7-10 of vegetables per day. I stopped doing OMAD and my BP is reading normal.

      SHAS S. exactly! My dr has said regardless of what I do I will have a chronic illness for life. Be medicated for hypertension and T2 diabetes for life. I said, so if I completely change my diet and lifestyle I will still be still the same, medicated for life. She just looked at me as if to say, sorry there’s no hope.
      I’m like, ok stuff that, I will go home and research everything myself, and prove her wrong. I have completely changed everything, reduced my stress levels, joined the gym and go every other day and on the days in between I go swimming because I love it. I do intermittent fasting with a couple 24 hr fasts twice a week and 16:8 on alternate days. I eat clean keto and make sure that when I do eat , that what I eat is as nutritious as possible.
      My mental health is better, my mood is better, my blood pressure is down, my blood sugar is down, my energy levels are up, I sleep soundly and no longer snore, I’m losing weight and some PCOS symptoms have gone. It’s been 7 weeks so far and I feel like a different person, I can’t wait to see what my results will be at the next check up.

    Its sad that I only tried and found the great benefits of ditching animal and dairy products in my mid-40s. The reason is that I only saw that idea peddled by hippie vegans and didnt want to be like that. We need more normal people like Dr. Goldhamer and Dr. McDougall to be more promoted in the media to help more people 🙂

    Blood pressure is a symptom of something else. So, you have to try to fix that. It may diabetes, kidneys, blocked arteries. What if you have kidneys that dont filter properly, wont the heart pump more to get the kidneys to filter? If the arteries are partially blocked due to eating junk food, smoking, etc. or you have stress, then you will have high BP. Shouldnt you try to solve what is causing it. After all, if the kidneys are not filtering wont taking a drug to reduce the pressure only make the matter worse? High BP is not an illness or a killer but an indication that something else is wrong.

      I think water fasting is a faster way to get there. Also he is saying to do low fat vegan diet afterwards. If after water fast you dont eat healthy the water fast is pointless. Eating healthier is obviously more important then the water fasting.

    I started doing intermittent fasting and eat lots of vegetables. Suddenly developed sleep apnea in the process which aggravated my blood pressure which was in perfect control before. All the sudden episodes of stop breathing are raising my BP and causing excesive anxiety and depression and dayly headaches . I tried to improve my health and end up with more sickness .

    Fasting along with a Vegan is a great way to reduce high blood pressure. At the very least, people should cut out the eating of beef if they want to lower their blood pressure. Most doctors recommend the D.A.S.H. diet to their patients who suffer from high blood pressure. But Ive personally done intermittent fasting and its not only helped to maintain my lower blood pressure, but it helps with weight loss as well, which will significantly reduce other health problems (which you talked about in your presentation).     Gee! I did it and it only took 10 days, but I disagree on resting during the fast. Better to keep active and busy and this keeps your mind away from eating and away from the family (because they never stop eating when they are together).

    If you do a water fast , you must get electrolytes or you will mess your self up !! Drinking plain water dilutes you further. Without sodium , potassium , magnesium , calcium , ( electrolytes ) your blood pressure can rise or drop. The electrolytes balance everything.
